The General Coordinator of the Itsekiri Cluster of Tantita Security Services, Mr. Esimaje Awani, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the Okorho Ubarira Unit One Base of Tantita Security Services.

The incident occurred just days after a joint committee of the National Assembly passed a vote of confidence on Tantita Security Services, reaffirming its role in pipeline surveillance and the fight against crude oil theft.

Reports indicate that at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, a group of armed men arrived by boat and stormed the Okorho Ubarira Unit One Base, opening fire on personnel and setting structures and operational boats ablaze. No lives were lost in the attack.

Mr. Awani, who is also a legal practitioner, assured that those behind the assault would be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

He gave the assurance during an inspection visit to the affected base, where he assessed the extent of damage caused by the attackers.

Describing the incident as unlawful and deeply disturbing, Mr. Awani emphasized that Tantita Security Services has consistently contributed to youth empowerment, community development, and national economic stability.

He expressed concern that individuals would act against an organisation widely recognized for supporting progress and safeguarding critical national assets.

The Itsekiri Cluster Coordinator maintained that those advocating for the decentralisation of the pipeline surveillance contract are indirectly promoting the resurgence of illegal bunkering activities, which pose serious threats to oil production and the nation’s economy.

He reiterated that all perpetrators of the attack would face the full weight of the law, stressing that acts of sabotage would not be tolerated.

Mr. Awani also commended the National Assembly joint committee for its recent vote of confidence in Tantita Security Services, noting that the gesture reflects a collective commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s economic growth and security framework.
