A Deltan, Mr Alfred Bougha, has advised the Federal Government against succumbing to pressure to share the Pipeline Surveillance Contract on ethnic or community basis.

He stated this during a press brief with Newsmen in Warri.

Speaking with Newsmen, Mr Alfred Bougha said any attempt by the Federal Government to succumbing to pressure from critics to share the pipeline surveillance contract would trigger renewed cases of bunkering, pipeline vandalism and unrest among host communities.

He stressed that the agitation against the present contract award to Tantita Security Service, is being sponsored by those who were benefiting from bunkery and pipeline vandalism activities.

Mr Alfred Bougha noted that the current surveillance structure has helped to significantly reduce illegal oil bunkering and protect critical oil facilities across the Niger Delta region.

He stressed that introducing ethnic or community considerations into the contract arrangement would weaken the operational effectiveness of the surveillance system and create unnecessary rivalry among communities.

He praised Tantita Security Service for the effort in successfully safeguarding the pipeline, which he said has lead to increase of daily Oil production from 700,000 bpd to 1.47 million bpd which have help boost our economy.

Mr Alfred Bougha therefore urged the Federal Government to sustain the existing framework of the pipeline surveillance contract in order to consolidate the gains already recorded in securing oil installations and maintaining peace in the region.
