OKUAMA COMMUNITY CRIES OUT, AS COMMUNITY IS SUBMERGED BY FLOOD

People of Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area have called on the Federal and State Governments to come to their aid over the flood situation that has ravaged the community.

The people made the appeal while speaking with newsmen.

Speaking with newsmen, some leaders of the community, Mr Victor Akemor and Mr Jacob Akemor, said the rise of the River Niger level has caused heavy flood in the community, thereby rendering the people of Okuama homeless.

They informed that the level of the flood keeps rising day by day, adding that water in the community is now above window level.

The people of Okuama Community stressed that the flood has taken away their farms which they have been managing to survive, now leaving them with hardship on how to feed, and has also caused more hardship for their children.

Mr Victor Akemor and Mr Jacob Akemor further stressed that the flood being experienced by Okuama community has been an annual occurrence saying that the suffering caused by the flood is unbearable.

The Okuama community people appealed to the Federal and Delta State governments to come to the aid of the people of Okuama community, saying that the situation is getting worse by the day.

They also called on NEMA, the Chairman Ughelli South Local Government, NGOs, and individuals, to come to the aid of the people with any form of support to safe them from hunger.

The present level of the flood on Okuama community has left the People helpless.
