Delta State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has intensified its humanitarian efforts aimed at providing succour to communities ravaged by the 2024 flood disaster.
The organization extended vital support to 100 vulnerable households in Isoko North and South Local Government Areas on Thursday by providing them with essential non-food items and money.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Delta State Branch, has been working tirelessly to provide relief to flood-affected communities in Delta State.
In December 2024, the organization distributed relief materials and cash transfers to 1,100 households in four local government areas, including Ethiope East, Burutu, Isoko North, and Isoko South.
The relief Items included customized ATM cards loaded with ₦77,000 each, 20-liter jerry cans, buckets, and aqua tabs.
The benefiting communities included Umeghe, Orhono, Oviorie, Ogbimgbene, Agbodobiri, Ogigbene, Bikorogha, Ovrode,Ige, Ikregbesi,Owodokpokpor, and Uzere in Ethiope East, Burutu, Isoko North and Isoko South LGAs of the state.
Branch Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch, Charles Arinomor said the distribution exercise, was designed to address both immediate relief needs and provide long-term recovery support for the victims of the 2024 flood disaster.
He emphasized that the intervention marked a continuation of the NRCS’s previous efforts in December 2024, where 600 non-food items and ATM cards were distributed to flood-affected victims in Delta State.
Charles Arinomor noted that the current initiative is funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Isoko North Local Government Chairman, Elder Prince Godwin Ogorugba represented by Mr. Thomas Akpoedafe, and the Director of the Delta State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Karo Ovemeso and some of the beneficiaries lauded the donor.for the gesture and urged others to emulate them.
Beneficiaries of the relief efforts are vulnerable groups including Female-headed households, child-headed households, Pregnant or lactating women, Aged persons, Sick individuals, People with special needs amongst others.
