A devastating rainstorm swept through Ugbokodo and Ughoton communities in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The disaster destroyed over 500 houses, rendering many families homeless.
Tuesday evening rainstorm wrecked havoc in, Ugbokodo and Ughoton communities destroying property worth millions of naira including schools, health centres, electric poles, churches and churches even the Police Station was not spared.
The rainstorm which brought fierce winds and torrential rains, blew away roofs from buildings, uprooted trees and snapped power lines.
Speaking on the incident to Deltatimes, leaders of the two communities, the Duke of Ughoton District, Okakuro Robert Onome, Unuama of Ughoton and Ugbokodo communities, Mr Pupu Atoromremo and, Comrade Christopher Ofoye, as well as Olotu of Ugbokodo community, Comrade Clifford Ayabare described the level of damage as disheartening.
They appealed to Governments at all levels, corporate organisations and public spirited individuals to come to their aid.
The destruction has left many families homeless, vulnerable and in dire need of support.Some victims were seen counting their losses.
