Hundreds of travelers by rail on Monday could not complete their journey as there were not enough coaches to take them.
The stations were filled with travelers as Monday January 6 marked the last day of the free rail transport service for the festive period.
The Federal Government last year offered Nigerians free rail transport across the country starting from December 22nd to January 6 this year.
Reports indicated that many persons who had turned out for the trip particularly at Agbarho station were disappointed as the coaches were all full to the brim.
Among the travelers were students returning to school and those returning to their various stations after the festive period.
Many of the passengers returned home in anger and frustration when they could not board the train.
Officials of the railway refused to comment on the issue but it was gathered that the number of coaches available to convey passengers were too few for those persons who turned out.
In desperation some tried to find their way into the already overcrowded coaches.
It was gathered that a similar situation happened in all the train stations between the Ujevwu and Itakpe route as available seats far outnumbered passengers on the ground.
The situation led to all kinds of tension, arguments and frustration.
It has been observed that traveling by train assumed a new dimension because of the sorry State of the roads and rising insecurity.
With the surge of passengers, Nigerians have asked the authorities of the Nigeria Railway Corporation to increase the number of coaches on the route and even expand operations to enable more people enjoy the rail services.
