A Peaceful Protest has been staged at the premises of Oando Oil and Gas Company operators of Oil Mining Lease OML 60 Flow station situated at Irri Community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State by indigenes of the community.

The protest was due to inability of the company to fulfill its responsibilities to her host community for the past fifteen years.

Indigenes of Irri Community during the protest barricaded the entrance gate of the OML 60 flow station at Irri Community protesting the alleged neglect of the company’s social corporate responsibility ranging from lack of electricity, non payment of the Petroleum Industry Act PIA, failure of the company to employ its indigenes amongst others.

The Protesters also disclosed that the Oil and Gas facility in their community was formerly been operated by Agip stating that the Odionlogbo of Irri Community was not carried along when the OML 60 flow station was taken over by the new operators Oando Oil and Gas Company.

Speaking to Deltatimes, President of Irri Community Mr John Ozareva said they have written several letters to the company to intimate them of their responsibility to the community but all to no avail hence the protest.

Others including the Odion in council Sir Silas Efajemue,Chief Adonis Ubuwene, Honorable Marcus Idike and Prince Chris Olomu all backed the protest threatening to shut down operations in the Oando Oil and Gas Company if authority of the company fail to respond to their demands.

At the Palace of the Odionlogbo of Irri kingdom the traditional ruler Igbogidi the first said he is unaware of those persons running the affairs of the Oil and Gas facility situated in his kingdom and declined further comments until the headship of the company visits to formalize their presence.

All efforts to reach out to the Oando Oil and Gas Company to present their own side of the issue proved abortive.
