Urhobos in Diaspora have thrown their weight behind the call for the creation of an Urhobo State from Delta State.

This was made known by the Chairman Diaspora Urhobo State Creation Committee, Olorogun Omodoro Adeseye-Ogunlewe, during the first Town Hall Meeting, held at Ughelli Hall, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Speaking via Zoom from the United States of America to a large number of Urhobos seated at the Ughelli Town Hall, the chairman of the Diaspora Urhobo State Creation Committee, Olorogun Omodoro Adeseye-Ogunlewe, said she was proud of the rate and zeal of most Urhobos towards the set goal of agitating for the creation of Urhobo State.

She stressed that Urhobo, being the fourth largest ethnic nationality in the country and largest in Delta state, deserves a state of its own, adding that they have all the necessary resources and personalities to run a state. Olorogun Omodoro Adeseye-Ogunlewe said that over three hundred Urhobos in the diaspora have also thrown their weight behind the agitation, adding that they are fully in support and ready to give all necessary support towards achieving the goal.

The chairman of the diaspora Urhobo state creation committee stressed that the Urhobos are being short-changed, even with the huge resources and support they give towards a rich Nigeria Economy.

Also speaking through Zoom from the United States of America, the Secretary Diaspora Urhobo state creation, Ejiro Bakpa, a lawyer and the Coordinating Secretary, Mr Ovie Princewill Emeofa, said Urhobo nation is blessed with all needed resources, adding that what they are agitating for is to preserve the Urhobo cultural heritage.

They stressed that other ethnic nationalities, who are also large in numbers, have their states and wonder why the Urhobos, who are the fourth largest in the country and the largest in Delta State, cannot have their state.

After much deliberation at the town meeting, the Urhobos in Nigeria and Diaspora concluded with one voice and agreed to the push towards the creation of the Urhobo State.
